Metro RW (Minn.) recently
hosted the fourth annual Ida Van Stone Lincoln Day Tea.
The theme, "Politics and the Media" was the focus of a
panel discussion featuring well-known state political
journalists.
Denver WRC (Colo.)
initiated a project last year to send care packages to
military troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. Members donated
various items, including snacks, drink mixes, personal
care items and entertainment items. Last spring, four
large boxes totaling 90 pounds were mailed to Major Carl
Bonnett’s unit in Afghanistan. (Dr. Bonnett is the
husband of DWRC member Jan Bonnett.) Major Bonnett
distributed the toys to children along the road side as
he provided medical care to American troops and Afghan
civilians and troops. Just in time for the holidays,
DWRC mailed three boxes totaling 70 pounds to a
colleague of Major Bonnett’s who is stationed in Kuwait.
The packages were distributed to soldiers in his unit,
which is spread over Kuwait and Iraq. DWRC has decided
to continue this successful project into 2008.
